Mission: Street Toxin - Establishments En Route
This is one of our longest routes, with approximately 3.2km (2 miles) of walking and clues that are of moderate difficulty. You may therefore want to take some breaks as you complete it and take the time to enjoy what Bermondsey and Rotherhithe have to offer!
You will pass through some great locations to stop off at for street food, coffee or something a little bit stronger along the way.
The map to the above shows a series of locations that we would recommend, with more detail below.
Maltby Street Market - Running since 2010, this market is tucked away just to the right of Tanner & Co., on Ropewalk. This is a vibrant market full of food stalls run by start-up food vendors of all different cuisines. This market is open Saturday (10-5pm) and Sunday (11-4pm). However, if you happen to be here mid-week, there are several establishments under the arches, including Malt Craft Beer, Taylor’s of Maltby Street, Bonvino Enoteca and Bar Tozino.
Druid Street & The Bermondsey Beer Mile - On the other side of Maltby Street, you will find Druid Street, which is home to several breweries that are part of the famous Bermondsey Beer Mile. The Bermondsey Beer Mile is a host of brewery bars and bottle shops, located along a stretch of railway arches that stretches for 2 miles across Bermondsey. This is home to more than 15 craft beer breweries and 2 gin distilleries. Close to where you will be doing your mission (and on Druid Street) is Anspach & Hobday, one of the craft breweries. You may find that you are up for trying a few of the breweries along the beer mile when you finish your mission.
The Angel Pub - The second half of the mission takes place in Rotherhithe, along the river walk. The Angel is one of Rotherhithe’s oldest pubs, dating back to roughly 1830. When you pass this pub, you will have approximately 4 more clues to go until you have finished the mission, so you may want to pass this and come back to it once you have finished the mission. Of course, there is no reason why you can’t stop off for a drink to help strengthen your problem-solving skills for the final stretch of the mission.
The Mayflower Pub - You will find yourself by this pub at the very end of the mission. It is an historic pub located right on the river, with an outdoor deck overlooking the Thames. If you have a chance at the end of your mission, we thoroughly recommend stopping off for a drink or a bite to eat here - but beware that if you are playing on a weekend, it may be quite busy.
The Watchhouse Cafe - Otherwise easy to miss, this cafe will be right in front of you when you finish your mission. It boasts a small garden and is a great place to grab a coffee, tea, hot chocolate or some small bites from.
